BOTOX TREATMENT

Maybe you heard a friend talk about her experience with BOTOX® Cosmetic—and you think your friend looks great—but before you get treated, you’d like to know more about it first.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical, physician-administered aesthetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65. BOTOX® Cosmetic works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines that have developed over time.

A purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, Botox Cosmetic® reduces the activity of the muscles that cause lines to form over time. Used primarily to smooth the lines of the forehead, eye and neck area, it eliminates wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. Clients often see a dramatic improvement, especially in the upper face.

Botox is also commonly used in the treatment of hyperhydrosis which refers to a condition of abnormally excessive sweating.  This can be generalized (all over) or localized to specific areas, most commonly the axilla (armpits) or palms. In most cases localized hyperhidrosis is a condition that occurs without a known cause. In rare cases, it may be related to internal problems. Consultation with a physician is recommended before considering medical treatments for hyperhidrosis to rule out this concern.

Botox® temporarily blocks the nerves that stimulate sweating in the armpits, palms or other localized areas where it is injected. It is directly injected via a very small needle into the skin in the area that is sweating excessively. Normal activity can be resumed immediately; however, heavy exercise should be avoided for several hours. After a few days, significant reduction in sweating is seen in many patients with the full effect being seen within one week. On average most patients see a reduction in perspiration for approximately 4-6 months with one injection; but some patients can get up to a year of reduced sweating from one injection
