The Facts About Adult Acne

THE FACTS ABOUT ADULT ACNE

You just turned 30 and one fateful morning, you look in the mirror and you see something on your face, something familiar that you thought you've put behind you. As traumatic as it was in your teen years, acne can be as traumatic or even more so as an adult. But not to worry because you are not alone.

Acne is a condition of the sebaceous gland, regardless whether you are a teenager or an adult. These glands produce an oily substance called sebum and are also attached to hair follicles. When the hair follicle gets trapped in with the sebum and dead skin cells, this creates an environment for bacteria to grow which leads to the formation of acne lesions.

Adult acne is not as uncommon as you think. In fact, one in every five women between the age of 25 and 40 suffer from adult acne. When acne resurfaces after several years of retreat, it can be due to one of the following reasons:

1. Simple recurrence. Especially if you have had acne during adolescence.
2. Hormonal imbalance - for example, pregnancy.

One fact about acne is that it usually begins with blackheads. Blackheads are actually not dirt but a pimple that has broken the skin. The exposed part turned black due to the skin pigment and exposure to air. Red pimples are blackheads that have become inflamed. Whiteheads are pimples that have not broken the skin and has been infected, thus the white milky substance.

So, how do you banish blackheads? In one word, Gently. People tend to scrub too hard, which can cause an inflammation. You can also use commercially available peels that strip the blackheads off.

Another fact is that there is no single cause for acne. There are several known factors that can lead to the formation of acne for women. These are: stress, bad cosmetics, hormones and medications. Stress has been known to cause breakouts probably because it can trigger hormonal imbalance or causes your oil glands to overcompensate. Bad cosmetics can lead to bacteria-laden pores. Hormonal imbalance causes the sebaceous gland to overact. Medication can induce acne like birth control pills or medicine containing lithium and iodine.

One common misconception is that food like peanuts, cheese and chocolate can cause a breakout. Well this is not true. Although, eating the right type of food can purportedly help reduce the risk of a breakout, but this is not entirely proven to be true either.

Some acne that occurs during adulthood may be difficult to treat, especially when there are multiple recurrences. It is also important to know that some lesions are not acne at all. It may appear to look like acne but in fact it is a skin condition that only resembles acne called folliculitis. Folliculitis occurs when the hair follicles become infected and inflamed. This requires a different type of treatment than acne.

If you've never had acne and this is the first time it has appeared, during adulthood, then it should be examined by a dermatologist to find the underlying cause.

Three Effective Anti-Aging Skin Products

THE THREE EFFECTIVE ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS

How to Minimize the Effects of Aging There is no cure to the process of aging. Aging is a natural process that no technological advance can prevent. Even that being the case, there are many preventative alternatives that can minimize the effects that aging has on our bodies. This not only gives the appearance of youthful vibrancy, but also improves your overall health.

These alternatives include many obvious things such as:
1. Proper Exercise
2. Proper Diet
3. Proper Habits

That last one may sound strange, but habits have an enormous influence on your health. I am not talking about habits such as biting your nails or never washing your socks. Those are acceptable (depending on your desire for social acceptance). Harmful habits, like smoking and bad eating habits, can greatly increase the process of aging.

It is important to remember these alternatives and practice them, however, beyond that, you should take preventative measures to help fight the process of aging. This includes regular medical checkups and the use of antiaging skin care products. There are three products that are vital to the appearance of your skin:

* Sunscreen
* Antiaging Skin Care Cream
* Exfoliate
* Sun Protection
One major cause of damage to the skin is what can be described as the light of the world: the sun. This is difficult for most, because the sun also provides beauty for some, in the form of tan. However, just because the sun can damage the skin, doesnÂ't mean you have to hide from it like a vampire.

There are different reasons the sun is harmful to the skin. One reason is that it dehydrates the skin. This dehydration removes the moisture from your skin and causes wrinkling and a premature aging of the skin.

Although dehydration is something to be cautious about, there are worse things the sun can do to your skin. Over-exposure to the sun can cause dark spots, blemishes, increase in the size of the skinÂ's blood vessels, thinning of the skin and even lead to skin cancer. It goes without say that avoiding all of these effects are critical to the skinÂ's health. Your skin is there to protect your body and itÂ's important to keep it healthy.

The best way to protect your skin from the sun is through the use of sunscreen. This simple antiaging skin care product is essential to protecting your skin and the unnecessary aging of the skin. Be sure to choose a proper sunscreen with the right ultra violent protection formula. You can find a variety of antiaging skin care sun protection products at an excellent online source for skin care creams: Murad.

Anitaging Skin Care Cream Another important skin application is that of an antiaging skin care cream. These type of creams provide hydration to the skin that restores the moisture is lost due to the rays of the sun. Antiaging skin care cream also decreases fine lines and wrinkles, deep creases, sagging skin, inflammation, large pores and loss of elasticity. You can visit Murad (referenced above) to find some excellent antiaging skin care cream products.

Exfoliate Yet another vital asset to your skinÂ's health is the use of an exfoliate. The exfoliate ingredient will help in gently scrubbing the skin allowing dead skin cells to be removed.

This process of exfoliating the skin is a big help in keeping your pores unclogged. The replacing of dead skin cells with new healthy skin cells is a natural process that will keep your skin looking young and healthy. Exfoliation will encourage this process and keep your pores clear and unclogged.

Here you have the foundation for keeping your skin looking as youthful as possible in spite of the aging process. With the use of these three vital antiaging skin cream products, you may just preserve the health of your skin to the extent you look younger than ever.

Hair Loss - Hair Facts

THE THREE EFFECTIVE ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS

Our hair grows in cycles. At any one time, about 85% of hair is in the growth phase and 15% in the rest phase. The reason for this is simple. While it might be neat if all of the hair on the head was simultaneously in the growth phase - that would likely mean that at some point, all hair would be in the rest phase, after which those hairs would be shed. That means that everyone would, for a short time at least, be completely bald.

All hair grows from hair follicles, which cover almost all of the body (the exceptions, thankfully, are the palms of the hands and soles of the feet). There are approximately 100,000 follicles on each head, each of which grows many hairs over a lifetime. For most people of average lifespan, a single follicle will grow about twenty new hairs.

Follicles go through growth and rest cycles, which vary with each individual. Each follicle will experience many of these cycles over the course of a life. The growth cycles average from 2 to 7 years and the rest cycles from 2 to 3 months. These cycles also vary according to the part of the body the follicle is located on.

Some follicles on the head will continue to produce hairs throughout the lifetime of the person, even for those who live in excess of 100 years. The individual hairs are produced in the bulb, which is located at the base of the follicle. This bulb also produces the pigment that colors the hair. Less pigment is produced as people get older which is why we get gray and white hair.

There are actually three phases in the hair growth cycle. They are the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. The anagen phase is the growth phase, and can last as much as 7 years. The catagen phase occurs between the anagen and the telogen phase and only lasts a few weeks. This is an intermediate phase. The telogen phase is the rest phase and lasts a few months, after which the hair falls out. The length of the anagen phase determines how long a person's hair can be. Since hair grows about ½" a month, a person whose hair is in the growth phase for close to 7 years will have hair more than 3' long.

Hair follicles will keep producing hair under most circumstances, and will almost never stop doing so. There are however some conditions that can cause hair to stop growing. Some serious medical conditions can affect hair growth. Illness such as severe anemia can cause a stoppage of hair growth, as can malnutrition and a poor diet. Some hormonal conditions (thyroid problems) can cause hair growth to be stopped, as can certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Of course, the most common cause of hair loss in men and women is pattern baldness. In men, this is seen in the horseshoe shaped ring of hair around the sides and back of the head. In women, the hair tends to thin over the entire head. This condition is caused by the conversion of the male hormone testosterone into DHT by an enzyme in the body. DHT acts on the follicles to cause them to shrink and produce finer and finer hair - and eventually stop producing them. There are treatments available for this condition that can stop the loss in many people, and often re-grow hair as well. It must be continued for life or all new hair is lost, and hair loss resumes.

Hair growth is a complex process that is not fully understood by scientists. Research continues in an effort to better understand it, and to help those whose growth functions have been adversely affected in some way.

Signs and Symptoms of Rosacea

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ROSACEA

Rosacea is a facial skin damage affecting especially Irish, Scottish and English people, but also African Americans and around 13 million Americans. It represents a chronicle inflammation of the skin with redness of the nose, chin and chicks; it can appear for the first time in the adolescence and develop through dilatation of blood vessels and appearance of red papules all around the face.

According to the latest researches Rosacea is mainly caused by a very sensitive blood vessel system of the face or even dysfunctions of vascular origin. Most predisposed to Rosacea are people who easily blush due to a hyper-dilatation of blood vessels. Also some external factors can worsen symptoms of Rosacea: sun, wind, some skin care products, cold or hot air, physical irritation as well as alcohol, very warm beverages and spicy foods. Internal triggers are strong feelings and emotions, stress, different hormonal activity such as menstruation and menopause, exhausting exercises and anxiety.

The first stage of Rosacea debuts with passing blushing, further on comes the persistent redness and an enlargement of the nose called rhyonphema. There is also a medium form of Rosacea manifested by swollen face and week till months lasting redness. Different pustules and papules can appear causing days lasting pain and discomfort leading to a shaken social and emotional life. Patients with Rosacea are very sensitive to skin care products such as cosmetics, sun filters, and acne preparations. Misinterpreted can easily be ocular symptoms like dry eyes, conjunctivitis, irritation, foreign object sensation and frequent tears.

The medical prescription for Rosacea includes local and oral antibiotics that manage to treat pustules and papules in middle cases but have no effect whatsoever on blushing, teleangiectasia or facial redness. This kind of treatment can lead to a disruption in patientÂ's social lives as it necessitates a restraining from all personal factors causing Rosacea.

Usually patients treated this way complain of little improvement and also worsen symptoms. Their face turns into a permanent red surface accompanied by a burning sensation. As rhynophema starts to appear, meaning an enlargement of the nose, the only remaining option is surgery that can only be performed when the growth is extreme. Everyday life becomes a challenge as there are triggers you simply cannot avoid, such as:

1. All kind of skin care products or cleansers as well as sun filters, constraining you to stay away from sun
2. Passing from cold to hot environments
3. Food and beverage triggers causing you to rapidly lose weight
4. Any kind of strong light, especially fluorescent light in the microscope
5. Strong emotions like crying or laughing, stress at work or professional deadlines leading to instant flush
All this triggers tend to make your life more stressful and hard, and you slowly start to develop erytrophobia, an extreme fear of being red. Discussion with other Rosacea patients informs you itÂ's not only you having these problems. Most of them donÂ't react well to antibiotic treatment which forces them to give up their usual habits.

Although every case of Rosacea is unique, there are a few general treatments that might just work:
1. Laser and Photoderm IPL correct dilated vessels, improve redness of the face and can decrease the blushing periods.
2. Accutane containing Isotrentinoin with vitamin A helps treating several disorders of the skin by improving keratinisation, controlling the activity of sebaceous glands and reducing skin inflammation. Its use treats papules, burning sensation and controls rhynophema. The only side-effect is it cannot be used by pregnant women as it induces fetus malformations.
3. Epidermis, the external layer of the skin could show some abnormalities leading to local inflammation and an increased blood flow. Most common used and with good results are zinc oxide and dimethicone, both protecting against irritation, sun, wind and other external triggers if applied on the face.

Foods For Your Skin

FOODS FOR YOUR SKIN

The skinÂ's functions are many, as we have discussed in other, previous articles, and itÂ's health is not just dependant upon good quality natural skin care products, although they do help considerably.

This article on natural skin care looks at the various foods, vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients that positively affect your skin. In addition weÂ'll look at specific nutrients for specific skin types, as it stands to reason, that oily skin would benefit from some foods, while dry, irritated and sensitive skin would suite other foods.

Before looking at individual food, lets consider some overall factors, which we should consider in our diet.
* First and foremost, water. It is essential that we consume 8-10 glasses (250ml) of water per day, more if we exercise or are physically active.
* Secondly, regardless of what foods we eat, we should have a minimum of 15 different vegetables, fruits and nuts in our diet (in total that is).
* Thirdly, we should eat our biggest meal early in the day and the smallest meal late. Most people do not do this and actually have it the other way around. Think of it from this point of view Â- at what stage of the day do you have most of your activity in front of you Â- well, thatÂ's the time to eat the biggest meal.
If you want your skin to look attractive and healthy there are several rules you must follow. The most important is cleansing with natural and reviving substances, because a clean skin is bound to look healthier. Since constant washing removes most natural oils and moisture, and even the acid mantel covering, you must consciously replace these oils, moisture and acids to re-establish the skinÂ's protective covering.

Your diet should be high in proteins, which can be found in lean meat, fish, and poultry as well as in nuts, beans, milk and eggs. Raw vegetables and fruit of all kinds are essential. Several glasses of water (this is much underestimated in it's importance) each day are essential to flush the system clear of toxins. Below is a list of important nutrients, their benefits to the skin and the foods in which they are found. This list is by no means exhaustive, however it does provide a good starting point for utilising food as part of your skin care regime.

The primary skin types are Oily, Normal and Dry. There are other skin types such as sensitive, mature or a combination there of. However, there is usually a dominant, primary skin type.

Skin Care Tips for Women

SKINCARE TIPS FOR WOMEN

People are obsessed with looking as young as possible for as long as possible! They want the fountain of youth! You can tell it is an obsession because there are so many different products on the market to help with anti-aging. It is a billion dollar business with new products and hyps being launched everyday. What works and what does not? If you are a woman then you are probably more concerned with your appearance than men.

Well saying that, men are obsessed with their appearance they just claim not to be. So even though this article is for women, men can benefit from it too.
There are so many different products on the market, how do you know which ones are actually effective? Many of the products are falsely advertised, claiming things that they can not deliver. So how can you find out which products live up to their claims? Well you need a source of accurate information so you can make informed decisions.

Anti-aging products are not cheap, you simply could not afford to try all of them. You have to be able to differentiate the products that work, from the products that are designed to separate you from your hard earned cash.

There are several different substances that have been proven to be effective treatments for your skin. The most effective substances are vitamin A derivatives, such as retinol A. If you feel your skin needs a lot of work then ask your doctor if he would offer you a prescription for a product that contains vitamin A.

You can of course buy some products containing retinol substitutes over the counter, these are only allowed to range up to a concentration of 1%. Normally the stronger the concentration, the stronger the treatment. The problem is a high concentration can cause the skin quite a lot of irritation and end up in a rash, so it is very important to carefully read the instructions.

The most important thing is to protect your skin from the sun. No matter how healthy you may think a sun tan is, it is actually very damaging to your skin. Your skin actually changes colour because it is already damaged. A suntan may appear to be healthy, but it certainly is not. Do not try to get a suntan at the expense of neglecting your skin.

Protect your skin using a high factor sunscreen all year round, use at least SPF 15. This will not only protect you from sun burns and damage which can cause skin cancer, but it should also stop your skin from aging prematurely and hold off the wrinkles.

The major cause of wrinkles is because your skin becomes too dry. If your skin becomes dry then small wrinkles can form and then gravity takes over and they just get bigger, more defined, and deeper, it is therefore important to ensure you keep your skin is well moisturized.

How Do Your Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

HOW DO YOU GET RID OF STRETCH MARKS?

How do you get rid of stretch marks? Stretch marks are one the most problem in women body, they can be a frustrating problem for people who have them. So understanding what stretch marks are can help you to get rid of them.

Stretch marks are called striae in dermatology. They are a form of scarring on the skin with a silvery white hue. Stretch marks are caused by overstretching of the skin, which changes in the elastic supportive tissue that lies just beneath the skin and disrupts the normal production of collagen, causing a scar.

Stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body also women and men can get stretch marks. They are most likely to appear in places where fat is stored, or that have a tendency to stretch. Most common areas of the bodies including the abdomen area, thighs, breasts, upper arms, underarms, hips, and buttocks or lower back.

Stretch marks are often the result of stretching the skin in pregnancy, obesity, bodybuilding, puberty, and intense physical activity. They often start as pink, reddish, purple, or dark brown, then later become fade than the surrounding skin depending on your skin color, although they never totally disappear, they do not compromise the body's ability to function normally and repair itself.

How do you get rid of stretch marks? Here are some tips to get rid of stretch marks:

- The sustained stretching on the abdomen as a result of pregnancy usually means stretch marks may appear during the sixth or seventh month. If you are pregnant and concerned with stretch mark consult to your doctor that you want to begin preventative treatment before your stomach starts growing. Often, your doctor can recommend creams.

- Using oils or creams in high-risk areas may help prevent your skin become firmer and more supple, more flexibility and reduce the appearance of some surface stretch marks. The sooner they are treated, the more success that treatment will be.

- Drink plenty of water, so this will maintain you healthy skin and keeps your skin soft.

- Avoid or decrease your intake of caffeinated drink such as coffee, tea or soda because it can increase your risk of stretch marks.

- A healthy diet rich in vitamins A, C, D, E, high in zinc, foods that contain essential fatty acids and protein will also help in preventing stretch marks. Add in your foods or take supplements in addition to your diet.

- Laser treatments can help restore the skin's elasticity and also change the pigmentation so the stretch marks better match the rest of your skin. Off course the price is very expensive too, into the thousands of dollars when there is a large treatment area.

The best thing you should do is always try to prevent stretch marks before they happen to you, because if stretch marks have damaged to the deep fibers of the skin is difficult and sometimes impossible to repair.

Dermatology Skin Care

DERMATOLOGY SKIN CARE

Skin being the largest and most visible part of the body might be the reason why proper skin care is essential for every individual; one can simply take care of their skin by doing daily skin care regimens, or in some cases of skin problems doing it the dermatological way. Dermatology skin care involves soliciting the help of skin experts or dermatologists to treat certain skin problems such as severe acne, rash, rosacea, varicose veins and other skin disorders.
